Basement Floor Ideas

Basements are very flexible spaces – they can be workout areas, full apartments, storage, construction areas for experiments, and so on. And, depending on what one wants to do with their basement, the type of floor matters a lot.

If you are not sure about what to do with the floor of your basement, worry not – this article is here to explain what type of floor is best for what type of basement you want.

The Most Common Basement Floor Types

First of all, let us go through the most common types of coating that can be seen when checking a basement apartment. For each fabric that is used, there’s a different setting that can be built on top of it.

Carpet

The most common floor is covered with a carpet. These tiles are good for commercial areas and also residential ones – they are soft and warm, and can ease the noise as well.

Ceramic

So you decided to rip off the carpet of your basement and found that the hard floor is ceramic – great! The good news (and only news) is that ceramic has many different patterns and it goes well with everything. If you are investing in a lighter decoration with a bright color pattern, then a good ceramic would be composed of equally bright colors, for example.
Ceramic has good resistance to humidity, and can be easily cleaned when something spills on it.

Wood and planks

A wooden floor can give your basement renovation a classic look, and a darker color would go well with most furniture. Planks are not firm – they are only adhesives that simulate the appearance of wood. Still, this is in no way an issue, since planks are commonly used for basements that have a predominantly-white decoration, which gives a lot of brightness to the space!

Concrete

This type of floor is very general and can have anything done in it. We can paint them like we do with walls, or apply the concrete stain type of paint. It is very easy and convenient to get creative with this type of floor!
Which takes us to our next section:

Use Your Creativity

Whichever floor type you prefer to have for whatever use you want to make of a basement, you can use and reuse your creativity.
What carpet-color is good with the walls? What ceramic goes well with my bathroom? Should I use marble or porcelain? Would a light gray wood plank match my white walls better than a caramel-colored plank?
The good thing about concrete floors is that pretty much anything can be done to cover them, however one desires. The basement floor can have gray tiles placed on it for a more urban decor. Or the kitchen floor can be filled with black and white ceramic tiles alternated. A living room invested in an open-space decoration would normally have white walls, beige furniture and large windows or mirrors, so a white-plank wood tile would be a great adhesive option for it.
Whatever basement option it is that you are looking to build with – there is a floor type for each decoration idea. So make sure to invest in a good material for the basement floor you want to have for yourself!
